The Departed, The Restless, The Young, and The (very very) Old...

I just finished watching The Departed.  Engrossing with some superior acting going on (exception Mark Wahlburg) but it didn't really connect with me in the way that it appears to have with Hollywood.  But it's good to see Leonardo doin' some solid work.  I guess I'm just not a mob movie kinda guy.  I don't watch The Sopranos, I've never seen any of ( Read more... )

Holy Crap!! I'm ANCIENT. I remember 1988. That summer I fell in love with a straight guy. Shortly thereafter, I never saw him again. I wouldn't mind so much if we had a least gotten it on just once.

Totally wasted year, good thing I'm not bitter.

Yeah I read the 4400 and the 600F and they got good reviews. I guess the 4400 does multi-scan
where you can stick some photos on and the scanner works out you've put multiple pics on at once and automatically crops and formats them?
BTW How many dpi are you using for your photo scans? I've no ideo so I've gone 600dpi as the pics are my precioussssss (g)

I'm also interested in how yo made the decision on the scanner. I've been looking but I'm reluctant to buy....

Well, I've browsed around at prices for a month or so now... But really, it just came down to me looking at the brands and the costs vs. functionality. The Cannon was a brand name that I have a good history with and it had key functions (high res, negative support, usb 2.0, etc) that I liked. It's also sleek and small so it doesn't take up a ton of room on my desk.

I'm really using it for recreational scanning (old photos, docs, etc) so I didn't go overboard in my decision making process.

cool, and the minimum resolution you were looking for was... 4800 X 9600?

keep us posted on how it works for you! I'm interested in how the negatives and the slides come out, too.

Yup, pretty much. Check out the listing on Amazon.com. It's a good overview and the comments made mirror where I'm coming from. I will say one thing, people describe it as slow - if taking 15 to 20 seconds to scan is slow then call me satisfied with slow... hehe, I can remember when it would take 5 to 10 minutes to scan and the memory required would lock down the whole system!

hmm, the glove I have on in the photo is actually a gardening glove with cut steal spikes duct-taped onto it at each finger. I grew up in Bakersfield after all.

humm funny, cause my first one was a also a gardening glove. the blades were cut out of metal and wraped around the glove on one end.

I eventually got the cheap plastic one
