Good post, it makes you think. Even from a perma-culture perspective and wanting to live more in-line with nature, i wouldn't want to be doing it 100 years ago. We have solar panels, and so much more tech that makes it easier to do these days.
In terms of death. I think living forever is sort of possible (even in a non-religious way). Either our own cell re-generation technology advances, or aliens will finally show themselves and rescue us.
Of those two options I'm leaning heavily towards our own cell re-generation technology advancing, which is what much of the next four entries will be about!
