Now I am picturing Desiree sung by Charlotte Rae. It's hilarious.

Charlotte Rae would actually have been better than this chick- a least she could have acted it.

What piano/karaoke places do you recommend and why?

I'm thinking of this for my visitors in three weeks.

Piano places depend on what you like -
You want only showtunes and cheap-ass drinks, go to Marie's.
You want pop songs and waiters with tambourines, go to The Duplex (also Mostly Sondheim upstairs on Friday nights).
You want to dress up fancy and have smarmy old men hit on you, hit The Townhouse.

Don't really do karaoke much in NYC- there's a bunch of nice Korean places around 34th st, though it's a rent-a-room and karaoke, karaoke, karaoke setup.

Man, if Desiree was that old, was Madame Armfeldt resurrected from the crypt? There is a generational thing going on there.

Was this at the theater at St. Clements on 46th St.?

Every time I see ALNM I keep thinking it's about the season finale to ANTM.

Oh, that Henrik doesn't look remotely Swedish. I guess it's a hard show to cast authentically but still...I like that show because I feel it's very authentically Scandinavian, all depressed and reflective, it's my ethnic experience, dammit!--and I like the cast to look that way.

Madame Armfeldt was a younger woman made to look old, and didn't really achieve it. She sang "Liaisons" while standing up and not falling asleep.

It was at Saint Jean's Players, on the upper East Side.

America's Next Night Music would be an interesting show.

And, yeah, no one looked Swedish.

Sorry it sucked. If Marc's friend was the tenor of the quintet, he's a friend of mine too. And the Petra was our Petra for St. Bart's - she was the best thing about our cast, I thought.

And our Desiree was too old, too. If they had cast HER as Mme Armfeldt and our quintet lady who just played Phyllis in "Follies" as Desiree, the entire production would have been leaps and bounds better.

Yep, that's Jack. He produced Marc's show in the Fringe... last year? 2 years ago?

This Desirée played the role like Dolly Levi. Shudder.

Shudder, indeed.

I wonder if this is actually a different production. My buddy the tenor is a black guy named Chaz. Did the Petra look vaguely Asian?

Ah, Jack is the other guy in the quintet then.

I just had flashbacks of that show in college. Ow. Thanks for that morning wake up hahahah.
Actually it was pretty good, they did it as a minimalist piece which i think helped keep focus on the music and lyrics rather than distracting set pieces and changes.

Minimalist would be good for that show.
