Insufferable, yes, but gentle...

Woo, my new business cards have arrived! Oh, they're beautiful! Hooray free cards from VistaPrint!

Just received the tentative tech schedule for Prince Trevor. Looks like they've scheduled us for night-time! wtf? A tech rehearsal I won't have to take the day off from work for? AWESOME

Last night Meeskite Marc invited me and Meredith to go with him to see a production of A Little Night Music that his friend was in. Met up with Marc at Marie's Crisis, and snag a little with Jim Allen, then we were off to the show.
I was excited, since I've never seen ALNM onstage. Holy crap, was it terrible. Community theatre at its worst- the two leads were too old (even for ALNM- Desirée is supposed to be somewhat advanced in years, but she's not supposed to be Charlotte Rae). Frederick screwed up the lines in "Now" (which is one of my favorite songs) and ended up skipping a verse- it was really a mixed blessing, since he seemed to have no concept of "pitch" or "rhythm", so it was nice to have it cut short. Carl-Magnus was chubby in a bad way. Charlotte had a lovely vocal tone, but also an accent and a lisp which obscured most of her great lines. Mme. Armfeldt was clearly a good 30 years younger than the diva playing her daughter. The kid playing Henrik was at least very pretty and had an okay voice, though no one wore patterned boxers like that at the turn of the last century- just show your ass, dude. Petra had played the role before and was trying her hardest. Anne was okay, though too chubby for the role and her soprano was sometimes piercing.
Marc's friend was one of the more accomplished performers, but of course he was in amongst the Greek chorus of liedersingers, so didn't really get to do much. And then on top of that group, they had 6 more unnecessary cast members (2 of the boys were very cute, but still).
Direction and musical direction was non-existent.
Carl-Magnus replaced a "god damn" with "stupid" in "In Praise of Women" (my other favorite song)- I assume the bowdlerization was due to the fact we were in a church, but seriously... He also didn't seem to understand what the song meant.
Everyone was wildly out of their depth.
When we got to intermission and realized it was nearly 10 o'clock (admittedly they'd had technical problems and had to stop the show for 10 minutes before "Now"), Meredith and I said our adieux and beat a hasty retreat. I haven't left a show at intermission since 1991.
Poor Marc had to stay through Act II. I hope he gets some brownie points for that.

It's vying in my head with Hudson Shakespeare's Flowers for Algernon as my Worst Theatrical Experience Ever.

From the website, it appears that 2 of our Christmas Carol cast members were in that company's Music Man last year.

Stopped off at 9th Avenue Bistro and sang some- there was hardly anyone I knew there, aside from Alan and Big Mark. Stayed for one drink and was home by Midnight.
