go ahead and call their tech support - my K2 was out of waranty and I couldn't connect to download books, it was right before the K3 came out and they sent me a replacement anyway. It can't hurt to call them and see if they can help.
If nothing else, my K3 broke last month and they gave me a discount on a new one--$65 for a refurb K3 wifi, which is what I did after trying a Touch for 3 weeks and hating it.
