A/N: Hey tharrr! Sorry it took so long for me to post this first chapter! I think I'll make this a weekly fic. Sigh, I have a feeling that I'm going to break that promise. Anywho, it's kinda oging on and on, and it's rather random but I'm still starting it off so yekno, I have to build it up to the climax, which isn't close yet. :D Comments & feedback are ♥

The streets were buzzing with movement; Women in their heels, click-clack on the pavement. Men in their business suits, walking briskly in the same direction. Young girls in packs, gossiping about the latest in this and that, young boys lounging around, attempting to impress these packs. There seemed to be only one girl out of place. Akira panted as she raced down the street in the opposite direction of everyone else. Her short, choppy brown-black hair whipped around her face. Her purple converses pounded against the cement with a steady beat.

“Sumimasen!” She repeated the word so many times, yet no one paid the slightest attention to her. At last, she reached the corner of the street and she spun around, looking from her left then to her right, as if deciding where she would go next.

“KIRA!” Akira turned around to face a smiling boy, 3 or 4 centimeters taller than her. He had a skinny build and medium-length brown hair. She rolled her eyes at him.

“Oh, it’s you.” Then she turned around again and began walking away. The boy got confused and began to follow.

“OI! What do you mean ‘it’s you’?!” He asked. Akira shrugged.

“Nothing nothing. Gosh, you take things too seriously ne Hika-chan?” She spoke as she walked briskly once again. Hikaru struggled to keep up with her fast pace.

“You called me!” Akira turned red and folded her arms, pausing at another street corner, waiting for the pedestrian sign to change to ‘walk’.

“Well, I don’t need you anymore.” As she began to walk, Hikaru placed a heavy hand on her shoulder.

“What do you mean you don’t need me anymore?! You asked me if I wanted to hang out and I said yes, because I’m awesome and nice like that.”

“Oh don’t give me that. But since we’re here…” Akira paused in front of a store window. She seemed to be eyeing something, and Hikaru followed her gaze. She was looking at a small pendant with a pearl drop hanging at the end. It was circled around with a thin line of silver; the chain glinted in the sunlight. She gave a small sigh and Hikaru glanced at her.

“Kira?” She didn’t respond and continued gazing at the small pendant. Hikaru tapped his foot on to the pavement, waiting for Akira to respond and when she didn’t, he scoffed and snapped his fingers in front of her face.

“W-What?” She stuttered, recovering from her daze.

“You must really like that huh.” Akira nodded timidly and abruptly began walking again. It took Hikaru a second to figure out that Akira had resumed her brisk pace.

“Hey! Wait up!” He jogged up beside her and kept up with her with long strides from his legs.

“Well, I doubt I’ll ever be able to get that stupid pendant. It’s too expensive anyway. But it’s so nice to look at.” She said rather quickly and Hikaru mulled over her words.

“If you were expecting me to buy that for you, you know I can barely afford my own lunch.” Akira snorted and smirked at him.

“You can barely afford proper self-hygiene. You smell, did you know that?” Hikaru raised his arm and took a whiff, and his eyes watered.

“W-Well, you called me just after I played a game of basketball with Keito.” Akira rolled her eyes yet again.

“You know, you might as well ask the kid out since you always seem to be coming from somewhere with Keito.”

“Ohh, is someone jeeealous?” Hikaru laughed as Akira punched him in the shoulder.

“No! I’m just saying! Tell me, do you like Keito?” They had arrived at the park and Akira had slowed down to a stroll.

“Do I like him? Sure I do. He’s a good buddy.” Hikaru answered and Akira shook her head.

“No, I mean, do you like like him?” Akira took a sideways glance at Hikaru and his face contorted at the thought.

“No, I mean, well…Okay okay fine you caught me. I used to like him.” He admitted and Akira nodded.

“Well, what happened?” Hikaru shrugged and collapsed on to the park bench.

“I don’t know. I never told him and the feeling sorta just…went away.” Akira just nodded again and sat down beside her best friend. They both stared blankly into space, absorbed in their own thoughts. They were always able to do that kind of thing for what seemed like hours. To some, they were probably strangers who just happened to be sharing the same park bench, and some may think they were a couple who had just argued and were both mulling it over. No; No one would've guessed that these two very different people - both in outward appearance and personality - were the best of friends and that silences like these were one of their most comfortable moments.

Akira let out a small sigh and rest her head on Hikaru's shoulder. Hikaru didn't move but continued thinking over his thoughts.
"Hey, Hika-chan?" Akira murmured.
"Hm?" Hikaru responded faintly.
"What would it be like to live abroad?" She asked, almost as if she were back in her daze.
"What do you mean?" Hikaru shifted in his seat but Akira kept her head rested on his shoulder.
"I mean like living somewhere other than Japan, like Keito did in England. I'm just wondering, would it be different?" Hikaru snorted.
"Yeah it would be different! What would happen to me and you? The Dynamic Duo!" Akira lifted her head off of his shoulder and gave him a hard punch.
"We were never called that!" Hikaru smirked and Akira just scoffed and lay her head on his shoulder again.
"I'm just saying though. Wouldn't it be neat? Living abroad. I think America sounds nice..." Akira's voice trailed off but Hikaru sat stiffly. Why was she asking him such random questions? What was the point in even thinking of living abroad when it was never going to happen?
