Kimberly, I love reading your blog - especially when you go to SCBWI events - it is so informative. I'm always a bit jealous you get to go and see and hear all of these industry people and their thoughts, as well as have an overall good time. Do you think it helps you as a writer or does it just help you gain knowledge of the industry or both? (OMG you got to see Margaret Miller?? She's my friend's editor!!! And Elana Roth!!! OMG I am jealous!!) -love, a poor college student haha
I'm very lucky that I've had the opportunity to attend the conferences that I have. I have three young boys at home and this is my big opportunity to go out without having to take anyone one else into the bathroom with me LOL! My sanity break so to speak. I believe that you do not need to go to a conference to get published. At the end of the day it is the quality of your writing that will get you where you want to go. There are many ways to learn to improve your craft that don't require you to go to a conference, having said that, I LOVE going. Its inspirational and it recharges my battery. It has given me a so many wonderful friends...but some of them I've met first on line, so again it is not necessary. I just love it. I've learned so much and met so many wonderful people and I would recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity. Keep your eyes open for bookstore events around your area. I've had some wonderful experiences with authors in that venue too. :o)
