Playing with hair to fit the English bonnet.

Today I spent a bit of time braiding up my hair, and taking photos of what I look like with the hair up and braided, then with the front braids taped (using a blunt needle), and then with the English bonnet being worn. The first few tries were not as good, but the final two photos seems to have done the trick.

The photo album is now here on FB ( ( Read more... )

What is that at the front of Jane Semour's bonnet - that's not hair is it? Always thought it was a ribbon.

I wasn't sure, but at this point I think it is a striped bit of fabric or ribbon. Some images the stripes are really close together like this, and others they are farther apart. Thought it might be taped braids, which is why I did the photos and test to see if that would work well enough - but it doesn't. At least it doesn't with my hair arrangement, which is purely a guess.

Ohhhhhhh. That's a neat hypothesis you may have disproved. I love experimental costuming.

on experiments: I'm pretty sure that Jane Seymour pinned her placard onto her gown because she was pregnant is true, because I totally did that, and mine scooched over in a similar way. And pinning is the prettiest way to hold on a placard I think.

Thanks. Even when things don't work out right, I like trying out things to see what happens.

And I like pinning, although teaching people to pin me in every time I got dressed was a bit annoying. Ah, to have a proper ladies maid.
