Are there images of hoods worn with this style of dress? Also, the only place I notice purple is on the ties, could you make a second set of ties to wear the overgown to fair? Or is gold also on the prohibited list?
This is one of those rare unique images that I've found from northern Europe showing this style of outfit (so far), so I've no idea what normally goes with this style. One of my friends and I think this might be a French interpretation "of the Italian fashion", as it doesn't seem to be fully Italian, at least not what was worn early in the 16th century. So I am not sure what to make of it. It could also be fully allegorical.
I plan on making the laces blue as that's the color on my monitor. But I should look at it again on my better monitor to double check, as it didn't look purple to me. And while gold is not banned for a courtier, pairing it with purple damask fabric is the no-no. Actually, the silk damasks fabrics I have are cream & golden yellow, and purple/violet & golden yellow. I'll be putting the purple & golden yellow where the "gold" striped fabrics are.
Ah, on my monitor the other fabric looks white with bluish shadows, that's where I was getting confused. I couldn't figure out where the purple was coming from :)
I agree that it looks very Italian, and I think I can see something lighter than her hair at the back of her head, they sometimes wore small veils/caps over a bun at the back of the head, and it looks like that to me. The idea of a hood with this style just seems wrong to me, but the style looks so out of place anyways among the other gowns that I have no clue what is going on.
