Part time or over the road?

As of late I've been having problems keeping up with my bills. Part of this is due to rising expenses related to winter weather such as heating costs, part of it is Sallie Mae being dicks and bumping my monthly bill up $50, and part of it is work cutting my hours a little at a time. Unfortunately it seems the best answer is tough it out over the road for another year or so :C I think until my last accident (22 months ago) is around 3 years old most decent companies will gladly pass me up for someone who's got a slightly cleaner driving record. And honestly the more I work at my current company the more I begin to wonder if all the frustration and stress I experience is really worth being able to go home daily.

I've heard of people getting two part time jobs before, but a full time and a part time? God that's a lot more hours than I'd ever be capable of doing O_o

70 hours a week? Eeek, I'm not even sure if that's legal in this country to expect someone to work that much :X

Anyway, good luck with the resumes, if 42 hours a weeks aren't paying bills then that must be a pretty sucky wage your on. Sallie Mae are housing aren't they? Bit of a bastard of them putting rents up, especially considering the current/for the foreseeable future economic climate we have :/

70+ is normal for over-the-road truckers, and we aren't even paid hourly.

And, unlike other careers, OTR drivers are fined for wanting to work overtime.

Like Startide said, truck drivers are expected to run around 70 hours a week. I think legally one can work 84 hours in a 7 day period (14 hour days, with 10 hour breaks and a full 34 hours off immediately after the fifth 14 hour period), but that is extremely rare ( ... )

Unfortunately I may have to, but I think I'd only have to put up with it for a year. 2 at most. I just need to have that accident get old enough to where companies won't really care about it anymore. Then once the year or two is up I can look for greener pastures!

Have you tried Gordon? I dunno if your accident will prevent them from hiring, but they do have a midwest dedicated fleet that they're begging drivers for. Moreover, they have a terminal right there in Green Bay, I daresay near the Schneider terminal.

I would imagine that you'd be able to find a dedicated route between Indianapolis and Green Bay, since I observe several loads going from Indy to Green Bay.

I keep forgetting about them. If I don't hear anything from a couple prospective employers I've contacted by the 6th I'll give them a shot! I see them practically every day at the drop lot I work at (and I do believe they are very close to Masterfleet & the old Schneider training academy!)

That's an understatement! At least, about Masterfleet. It's literally right down the street... Like, walk out of the parking lot, turn right, walk down half a block, turn left, walk another half block and you're there!
