Doctor Who --- 33 Days of Doctor/Rose ---- Day 2: Favorite Scene
I'm a few days late on this meme because I honestly couldn't decide what my favorite scene was. I kept changing my mind!
THE DOCTOR
You've seen how dangerous it is. Do you want to go home?
Rose looks at him for a few seconds.
ROSE
I don't know. I want...
(sniffs the air)
Oh! Can you smell chips?
THE DOCTOR
(laughs)
Yeah. Yeah!
ROSE
I want chips.
THE DOCTOR
(smiling)
Me too.
This scene is short, but it really embodies the Nine/Rose relationship to me. Her first trip in the TARDIS, and where does he deliberately take her? To see her planet burn, probably very much like his burned. He is hurting and damaged by the Time War and is (subconsciously or consciously?) showing her part of his darker, destructive side. Rose is still basically a stranger to him -- if he was going to successfully achieve scaring her away, it would have been at this point in their relationship. He gives her the option of leaving here, and is very serious. We saw his dejected reaction when she refused to come with him at the end of Rose, so clearly he doesn't want her to bail on him - but he is still giving her an out here all the same, after showing her something horrible. And what does she do? She makes him smile.
If any one scene can fully embody a meta on the Doctor/Rose relationship to me, it's gotta be this one.
