Lavender didn’t know a girl could have so many tears. She can’t remember one night since Cedric’s death she didn’t cry herself to sleep, waking up to the still wet pillow. It takes her long to get up, takes her even longer to get dressed. She’s not hungry, so she hasn’t been at breakfast for ages.
“I’m not hungry,” she says when Parvati tries to convince her, every morning the same.
“Lavender, you have to eat something … I’m worried, please come with me.”
“No, leave me be. I just want to sleep a little longer.”
Parvati sighs and goes without her. “Okay …”
One morning Lavender prepares herself for turning her best friend down once more, only to hear the door open and close again. She frowns and opens her eyes, turns around to see if Parvati really left without any word … only to feel her lips curl into the first smile in forever.
There on her nightstand is a plate with a chocolate cupcake, looking delicious with colorful sprinkles and white frosting.
Right next to it, written by Parvati, is a note:
“I hope this will make you smile a little. I know you love chocolate almost as much as I love you.”
And suddenly getting up isn’t as hard as it was before, getting dressed neither, and walking down into the Great Hall with her cupcake to have breakfast with her best friend never seemed easier.
