At first Ami thought that curious excitement came simply from the fact that she never had had a best friend before. Her heart was fluttering every time Usagi-Chan took her hand, called her name, looked at her with the brightest smile one could imagine.
There was a warm feeling in her stomach and she couldn’t help but feeling as carefree as most girls her age did, forgetting about school and tests and learning. All that was left in Ami’s mind was Usagi. Drinking tea with Usagi; going shopping with Usagi; playing videogames with Usagi … just spending time with her.
When the others joined their little group of Sailor Senshis, Ami noticed something weird. When she went out to visit a concert with Rei, there was no heart fluttering.
When she ate Makoto’s self-made lunch, she didn’t feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
And it wasn’t until later, when she was lying in her bed one night and thought about these facts, that she considered another possibility. A blush was creeping its way up, covering her whole face when she finally came to one conclusion: “I … I have a crush on Usagi.”
Once spoken, the words didn’t seem to be strange at all. And who could blame her for the circumstance that her very first best friend was also her very first crush?
Smiling to herself, relieved she finally knew what was going on with her, she drifted off to sleep, looking forward to another tomorrow - full of Usagi.

Usagi’s frown intensifies with every word Ami says. “And then you add this number to that, multiply it with the factor y and have the result. See, it’s not that difficult,” Ami smiles and looks at her friend who’s totally frustrated.
“Oh come on, Ami, I’ll never get that! I don’t want to study anymore,” Usagi whines and lets her head fall on the table.
Ami sighs. “But you have to … Do you want to fail?”
“No,” Usagi answers with a muffled voice.
“Then keep going.”
“No,” the blonde repeats stubbornly.
Ami sighs once more. “Want to take a break?”
“Yes!” Usagi rejoices and sits up again, looks mischievously at her friend. “I think it’s pretty warm in here … You don’t mind, do you?” she asks, not waiting for an answer when she takes her top off.
Ami’s eyes widen and she can’t keep herself from looking at Usagi’s pink bra.
“Tha-That was not the type of break I meant …” she stammers.
“Don’t-you-noooow?” Usagi teases in a sing-song voice and tucks at Ami’s very own shirt. “Regarding your red cheeks, you got to be hot, too.”
Ami gives in and lets Usagi undress her. “Why does studying with you always end this way?!” Ami exclaims before Usagi seals her lips with her own, keeping Ami from yammering on and giving her mouth something way better to do.

Rei watches Usagi sleep peacefully. As she looks as this beautiful face, so contented, she thinks of the past hours. How they kissed passionately, roamed their bodies, gave in to their love-making all the way.
Rei pretended to not notice the tears that were running down Usagi’s face when she came and laid back on the bed, sweaty and exhausted, but the blonde spoke to her nevertheless.
“You know, that means nothing,” she said and dried her face.
Liar.
“It has nothing to do with … him.”
Liar. You can’t even speak his name.
“I’m with you now, and I love you.”
“Of course you do,” Rei finally answered with a smile. “I know you do.”
And as the black haired girl now remembers the look on Usagi’s face, that sad expression in her eyes, she knows what it meant, what Usagi wanted to say but didn’t dare to, just like herself:

“Sure, and I made them all by myself,” Naru smiles proudly at Usagi and gives her the pretty box decorated with a pink ribbon.
She watches how her best friend unties it, inhales the scent of chocolate and caramel and sighs contentedly. “You’re getting soooo good at making these, Naru-Chan. I bet if you’ll give them to the one you love he will fall for you head over heels!”
Naru’s smile falters a little at these words. Almost she wants to say ‘No, she hasn’t yet’, but she can prevent herself.
All she has to do is hope some more, keep making sweets, chocolates, fine pralines in heart shapes and wait for Usagi to finally see the message behind it.
And watching how the blonde girl digs in, Naru has to laugh. Sure, one day it will happen because as anyone can see, the way to Usagi’s heart is through her stomach.

“Goodness, I couldn’t eat another bite!” Rei exclaims as Ami starts to chuckle.
“Unsurprisingly so. You’re quite reminding me of Usagi, eating so much,” the blue haired girl starts to tease and laughs at the dumbfounded expression of her friend.
“Don’t say that! I didn’t eat that much …”
“If you say so,” Ami offers with a little smile when they continue to stroll down the main path of the fair. It’s a beautiful evening and the two of them enjoy their time together, doing some games, winning a cute little goldfish that Ami named Einstein and trying different snacks from the food booths.
They’re about to go home when Ami spots something. “Want to get some last treat? We could share,” Ami suggests shrugging.
Rei smiles knowingly at her friend. “I guess we take the blue one?”
When they walk home in the darkness, nibbling together on the cotton-candy, arms linked intimately, Ami sighs and rests her head against the taller woman’s shoulder. “Thanks for the beautiful evening. I really had fun.”
“Me, too. I think we should do this more often,” Rei says and looks down at Ami, grins, leans forward and kisses the corner of her mouth.
Ami blushes heavily. “Rei!“
„What? You had some cotton-candy there and my hands are full, so that was the only way to clean it up. Next time I’ll just let you walk around with a blue mouth if you like that better.”
Ami rolls her eyes and laughs. “You’re unbelievable.”
