In a few hours I am going to be attending an Immigrants Rights Demonstration in Kansas City, like the ones in Dallas and Flordia the past few days. I think this is an important issue we all need to pay attention to.

THE UNITED STATES IS A COUNTRY FULL OF IMMIGRANTS! It's extremely hard to find a real, full-blooded American around these days. If ( Read more... )

The U.S. does need some sort of border regulation, though. This is not the most radical thing that has been done to immigration laws and it definitely is not the most racist. In the 1920s they cut off immigration completely only allowing people from certain parts of Europe because they felt certain races were "more intelligent" and disallowed Chinese immigrant completely. Immigration control is necessary, it's just to what extent and what measures are taken. We need to focus on ending corruption and capitalism in general, not making our borders more porous to exacerbate our budget deficit. It's undeniable we need immigrants to run our nation - they are the fiber of what makes this country since it's founding. Especially Latinos; my entire family immigrated to the US from Mexico, but we came here legally. I may have been born in American, but my people MADE America. The strict stipulations on the bill trying to be passed will most likely be crossed out in their entirety because of the logical fallacies. We cannot expect our economy to ( ... )

There was a post in aprende_espanol about this the other day.

It's obvious this whole issue is not centered around what is right but where the money goes.

My friend was talking about this yesterday. Doesn't it deal moreso with immigrants that are here illegally?

i have no problem with immigrants coming here, however i DO have a major problem with illegal immigrants.
if you want to be a law abiding citizen, live here, pay taxes, whatever do it the right way. get in line and get a visa.
my stepmother is an immigrant who is a legal immigrant. she took her time and waited to get the right to come here, live here, and work here.

i have no problem with people coming here, but the people who take the short cuts and come here illegally should NOT be handed the same opportunity that as the immigrant who waited and get their visa and right to be here.

people are people but if they really wanted to be here, do cut the corners.

i think i'm rambling but thats where i stand.

For some minorities especially coming from areas of corrupt government, it's not as easy as standing in line, though. If you have 6 children to feed and bills due next month, you won't go standing around for a visa for the sake of being a law abiding citizen - you'll fight tooth and nail to provide for yr family.

I think there are a lot more white americans and "legal" or "born here" americans mooching off the system then the illegals anyways. There are sick amounts of these people (including whites) on WIC and welfare begging for money from the government whereas immigrants come to do the dirty work without complaint for a few dollars. You show me one white American who will go pick grapes to pay off his car debt - and I think that zeal counts for something.

you're right, most people come from families of immigrants...how many people are full-blooded native american? immigrants are what this country is made of...but an immigrant isn't a type of citizen, and citizens get rights in this country. i get pretty mad when i hear illegal immigrants trying to say they should be granted rights just cause they made it over here. do it legitimately, show you have enough respect for the country that you're willing to follow the rules on getting in, and then you get your rights...
