Holday Salutations, part II

Thanks for the thoughtful responses to my last post! I was really just musing, not asking for advice. I tend to do the generic "Happy Holidays" with strangers. I resist saying Merry Christmas except on the day itself, and even then, I tend to stick to Giftmas (or Atheist Kids Get Presents Day). It's interesting, for me growing up and with current family traditions, I celebrate Christmas...it just doesn't have anything to do with judeo-christian religion or Christ at all. It has to do with family connection and little traditions.

I also celebrate the winter solstice which at times is done in a group of friends, and some years is done completely solitary. So for me someone wishing me a "merry christmas" has nothing to do with religion, and everything to do with family traditions. While wishing me a "happy solstice" is more about a religious event.
