...with a little help from my friends

Hi all
I'm doing a presentation in my consumer health class, and I'm responsible for our little game of Medical Balderdash of sorts.
So, basically I'm going to need your help making up some of the definitions.
What I need your help with: define each of the terms below. If you know it , define it, but if you don't, don't Google, please just write ( Read more... )

I've heard of phenylketonuria, but I can't recall anything about it right now ( ... )

The first two I'm not sure of.

Plantar Fasciitis I know is something about feet... I would guess it's a more extreme stage to fallen arches (since I know that it's not the latin name for fallen arches...).

Lichen Planus... something scabby?

GERD is a gastric thing. I think the RD is reflex disorder, so heartburn?

Consumption is tuberculosis, though I admit I'm not entirely sure what that entails.

Quinsy... sounds like it should be a bowel problem but I am tooootally guessing.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis is chronic fatigue, I'm pretty sure. I think my aunt has that? Or chronic pain.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) - a metabolic disorder wherein the body lacks the ability to break down the amino acid phenylalanine

Long QT Syndrome - no idea. Maybe something to do with tendons? Being overly long?

Plantar Fasciitis - I have this too, but I also am not sure exactly what it is. A disease of the plantar fascia? It's a foot thing.

Lichen planus - no idea, but I'm going to guess foot fungus.

GERD - Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disorder. Where stomach acid doesn't stay in your stomach, but goes up into your esophagus for some reason.

Consumption - tuberculosis! But I don't actually know what tuberculosis does to you.

Quinsy - no idea. Perpetual white face and red lips/nose?

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis - no idea. Sounds awful, though. I'd guess it has something to do with the degradation of myelin. In the style of a myalgia.

My best guesses (more than likely wayyy incorrect)

Phenylketonuria ??

Long QT Syndrome -something to do with cardio/pulmonary system and the heart

Plantar Fasciitis - painful tendons in the foot (arch) and heel

Lichen planus ??

GERD - very common acid reflux disorder

Consumption - a familiar term used in the olden days to describe tuberculosis (caused by bacteria) not common today but is said to be making a resurgence

Quinsy ?? (a doctor character from a 1970's medical drama haha)

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis something to do with the eyes?? ophthalmolgic [sic] in nature

Balderdash is awesome! all of these are quite tongue in cheek since I don't really know any of them :P :)

Phenylketonuria - a genetic disorder where one's ketamine's contain an extra phenyl group, leading to seizures
Long QT Syndrome - a series of symptoms that tend to affect really tall attractive people
Plantar Fasciitis - an advanced case of fungal growth beneath the skin
Lichen planus - a condition causing rough bumpy greyish lesions on the skin, particularly in areas where the skin is prone to callousing
GERD - Girl Nerds, NEXT QUESTION!!
Consumption - isn't this what they used to call TB or something?
Quinsy - ZOMG, you caught THE GAY!!
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis - condition affecting the nerve endings in tongue causing a noticable lisp and discolouration of the tongue due to decreased blood flow
