This is possibly one of my favorite music videos ever. I'm usually super picky but this is so good! XD

There is just something very fresh and hopeful about the pv. I remember poking fun at their name and promo shots when I first heard news about them (SHINee? What the eff is with the selective capslock. How do I pronounce their name? Shin-ee? Shiny ( Read more... )

I right+clicked on your gif to save in my new folder to start saving gifs, only to realize that the only one I have in there so far is the very same gif.

I approve of this entry so much. ;_;

Hello Baby was probably the best PR move SHINee ever made. Before that show, I thought of SHINee as the group that a) sang Ring Ding Dong and b) had Key in it. (Not to mention, the only Kpop groups I'd even vaguely heard of at that point were Super Junior and SNSD, so, uh. Yeah.) After Hello Baby, once I'd not only learned to differentiate between the members (seriously, I still remember not being able to tell any of them apart!) but also grown attached to them as individuals...there was just no going back.

....

And in a way, that's actually what terrifies me most about the Kpop industry. They've figured out the core illusion that fuels pop icons -- the illusion that what you're doing is not consuming a product but getting to know a person -- and crafted a machine that exploits it to high heaven, without shame or mercy. Beyond anything you'd see in the US, I'd argue ( ... )

As a kpop fan of 5+ years, I agree that that is the core of idols--to make the masses fall in love with them. Sure the kids are supposed to be trained to sing and dance but their number one goal is to entertain others---be that it is by performing or being on variety shows ( ... )

Added you back!! :D

Yeah...I actually haven't watched the Yunanham show just cause I feel like the secondhand-embarrasment factor might be too high, lol. But yeah, Hello Baby was freaking fantastic. SHINee + house + baby = RECIPE FOR PERFECTION. Plus, awkward!Onew and surprisinglyamazingwithchildren!Minho. Aaaaaah. ♥

I wanna watch more of them on Star King, actually -- it's hard to find on youtube. Maybe I'll look around more....

P.S. I just rewatched the Replay MV you linked to. Obviously I don't have the years of experience watching MVs to compare it too, but speaking as a total n00b -- god damn it is just so good and beautiful. ♥ I love what you said about it having a fresh and hopeful feeling to it -- I never would have thought to say it that way myself but I totally agree. It just feels so good to watch ( ... )
