On Fine Arts

I just left a very pleasant conversation with one of my fine arts professors. It's good to talk with someone so knowledgeable about areas I know precious little about, and he told me about a couple of operas in Michigan that I may try to get to if it's not too costly. (Apparently the University of Michigan will be putting on a good Czech-language ( Read more... )

I waste so much time on such interesting things :-/. My art professor for fine arts got me looking up the old cathedrals, basilicas, & churches of northeastern Italy and western Germany. So beautiful! I wish I were better with math et alia, then I could be an architect and design such things. As it is I can only look at them. Yes, I am quite eccentric. It's why I haven't fled people entirely - they even me out a bit :-) & keep me from living entirely in my own little world.

I've found some primary resources for a paper on the Old Belief, but still nothing fabulous :-/. Found a good-looking secondary source (by Florovsky or a Meyendorff I think), but it's secondary, which means it's not as good as a primary source :-(.

It's bed time. I want to skip my evening devotions entirely, but I know I need to pray. I'm coming unmoored & I don't want that, but my laziness threatens to overwhelm me. May God save & protect!

"The Bartered Bride" by B. Smetana kijabeboy03 March 7 2007, 07:10:38 UTC
It's "The Bartered Bride" by Smetana, sung in Czech with English translation for people like me :-).

The opera will be playing Thursday through Sunday (15 through 18 March). (If I go it'll probably be to the 2pm showing.) The info's posted at www.music.umich.edu/performances_events/productions/06-07/bartered-main.htm.

My fine arts professor for music said that the U of M has paid a lot for the singers to be intensively coached in Czech, but that doesn't mean the accents will be great.

Sleep!!! I should engage in it...
