That man is too damn proud for his own good!

And this was heartbreaking.

That's okay. The Emmy nomination did a good job of healing it.

and they snubbed Robert Sean Leonard, who took the crap they gave him, and turned it into something memorable. sigh.... [and did David Morse really deserve a nod for Tritter? but maybe it's best if we don't go there...;) ]

Hi! I found your post on sick_house and I've just read this fic.
I liked it a lot, it's bitter and hurting but very well-written and in character.
I like your explanation about House intentionally incorporating "some of this cold, inhuman persona into his daily behavior-so that when the breakthroughs came, the change in his personality wasn’t so blatant, didn’t raise worried questions from Wilson."
and the final line "He can always count on the pain."
Ow. It hurt. But it's a good kind of hurt!

ps. Sorry for the double posting.

and i think that explanation's gotta be at least partially true, canon-wise. i'll never forget wilson's "you've changed" speech at the end of Detox. chronic pain changes people, intrinsically. house needed to acknowledge that.

Greetings!

True... so, why are Cuddy and Wilson so surprised? House is male, essentially alone, and it's only been, what, five years or so since the infarction? Acceptance seems to be a reverse sine wave that takes time to completely Journey through. Longer for some than others. And there don't seem to be any shortcuts, no matter what those around you might wish.

Not to say that there aren't things that House could be doing to help himself that he's not doing, but hopefully that will come in time as well.

*slaps Wilson* very hard. Please bring understanding!Wilson back soon :P
*hugs House then shakes him a bit* Tis a terrible thing indeed when pain is the only constant in your life, other than intractable pride.

Love the 'intractable pride' phrase also... *tucks it away in literary basket for later*

Sometimes, though, the pride is the only thing you have left, so you cling, even as it's killing you.

That was the perfect summary of why House and Wilson are the way they are. That explained it all, especially the end: "Now the Vicodin has betrayed him. And he's betrayed Wilson...He can always count on the pain." Perfect statements of logic there, makes absolute sense. Loved it!
Also, when will there be a sequel to The More Things Change? I'm very excited about that :)
