For some reason this made me really sad. It’s just… Jim seems desperate to prove how much he loves Spock, and how committed he is to the prospect of forever, but Spock doesn't think Kirk's ready for that kind of discussion. Surely that's not entirely his decision to make? If Kirk is ready for forever then they need to talk. It feels like poor Spock’s motto for his relationship with Jim is: 'once bitten, twice shy'. He feels he was too quick in asking Pike to be his bondmate and now he's being extra cautious. But then... there is a whole chunk of their story missing prior to this and I can’t understand the full motivation of either of them as a couple, not yet. Perhaps Jim feels like he has to offer up forever (another one of his self-sacrificing moves because he genuinely cares) and Spock knows this but doesn’t want either of them to rush - there's all the time in the world

The truth is, this snippet is a little more serious than it appears to be at first sight. You're right in saying that Daniel is no one to make any kind of judgment, but Daniel as a character in his own rights has his own flaws. Minding other people's business is one of them, even though he has a very specific angle at which he looks at things

Well, I'm glad I didn't come across as the Grinch or something. :) I just think this fic asks more questions than it answers and I'm just dying to know the lead-up to this point in their relationship. *is totally impatient* Obviously I knew you couldn't answer in depth the 'whys' and 'hows' of the motivations behind their behaviour in this snippet, that would give way too much away and I don't want you to do that, but I hope there will be answer some day. I'm not very good with loose ends.

And yes, Daniel is only human and thus the main character in his own life, making him feel he has the right to say it like he sees it. In some ways that's lovely, especially how highly he regards Spock. I just felt so bad for Jim to have to hear something like that from a complete stranger. *snuggles Jimmy tight

I think Daniel is a little protective of Spock in his own way and he doesn't know Jim. In his view, anyone who can have Spock and doesn't want him is insane, and he has no qualms sharing this view. That's extroverted ego-centric for you. ;)

In this verse, Jim and Spock are pretty much hard-wire onto each other's happiness instead of their own and both of them carry way too much baggage to imemdiately see that they both can have exactly what they want and that's what will truly make the other happy. Not because of selflessness, but because they do want the same thing, exactly the same thing. They'll figure it out eventually, but given their respective background, it can't happen overnight.

I do hope things will be clearer once Arc V is up.

I don't know which had me more excited: the prospect of a new little tidbit of DNSB, complete with spoiler (I'm guessing the Admiral's Ball?) or the content of said little tidbit of DNSB. Ah hell, it was the content, for sure.

This was AWESOME. Awe-so-me! So many things to love, let's see: Jim petrified of the big bad clothing salesman. The delightful banter. The smelling salts. Spock and Winona addressing Jim's wardrobe behind his back (heh). Or the end, which has a Jim willing to commit and not running for the hills at the very thought of marriage, even if they weren't quite there yet at this point in their relationship (if I didn't already love you, I'd fall in love with you for that alone, and you know why that would be the case ;-)) and the boys dropping everything for some sexy times. How did you fit so much win in such a little piece? You're amazing, you are.

But the thing I loved most... this piece reflects a philosophy near and dear to my heart:

I'm pretty sure Jim has committed quite a while ago, even though he might not know it fully yet. But he really would do anything, even though they aren't quite there yet, and Spock knows it. Of course, they could have gotten hitched right there and then and enjoy bliss and happiness, but then, they wouldn't quite be themselves then, would they? :)

Yes, well, you know me, I don't rush things... to put it mildly. *g* To each his own. ;) To me, immediate bondmates are a thing of the same caliber as a magical mindmeld that cures everything. I adore Spock's telepathy to bits, but sometimes in fics it sort of robs him of the natural development of his relatinships with people. And given their respective background in this particular verse, no, I don't believe Jim and Spock would immediately slip into the happily-ever-after any more than they would instantly fall into bed. Weird author is weird. :)

It wouldn't be too much. That's all I'm saying. ;)
