And yes, I, too, felt that Spock is just taking all the blame upon himself. It reads like model logic of all abuse victims everywhere D:
And with Jim, a phrase comes to mind: it's in his nature. Not as much his fault as, well, his nature.

I like this tale, it does explain a lot. The thing is, I'm not sure about the nature of Jim's nature. He puts up a face for Pike, but with Spock, he's desperate. I'm not sure what he's all about here yet.
