I don't think of myself as a grammar nazi but some things just piss me off. Typographical errors I can live with. However, some people actually don't seem to use or know the word "lose" as distinguished from "loose." And that is the subject of my public service announcement rant.
Just in case anyone is confused...
"Lose" is a verb with major definitions including "come to be without something" and "fail to win."
"Loose" is primarily an adjective with major definitions including "free from restraint" and "not strict, exact or precise."
When "loose" is a verb, it means "make free from restraint" or "discharge" (as in an arrow from a bow). The connotations of how you "come to be without something" when you "lose" it and when you "loose" it, even when you apply the meanings closest in similarity, are QUITE different.
I will lose my mind and loose my wrath upon the next person I see screwing this up. One can have standards that are relatively loose and still reasonably be upset when a rather simple word loses meaning.
