You have a cool flist because your pretty cool. 1. I did not at all take the use of the word lynching to be race related, because I know you would never mean it that way. It was cool of you to acknowlege it though. See again with the cool. I mean I know it's sensitive my Dad lost a good friend to a lynching and that was in the 70's but you know it's a word and it only has the power we give it. 2.LOL yeah I like Obama and the weird me out to, because seriously he is a human with all the same frailties as any man. 3.Only time will tell but I hope he is the man the country needs him to be. XOXO
I really like that you pointed out that a word only has the power we give it. Last week (or maybe the week before?) a sports columnist said someone should take the noose off another's neck and it was a story because he was talking about a black man. SURELY, no one thought he meant it "like that". I think we really need to consider people's intentions before getting upset.
See that's the sort of thing that annoys me because I think these frivolous semantic issues can take away from the seriousness of real racial problems when they crop up. I do think intent natters a lot and sometimes you just have to take a breath and access.
I think you didn't get attacked precisely because you are so very intelligent and level-headed in your analysis and opinions. As an Obama supporter, I completely understand and share your doubts, and I think Obama himself probably does too. Quite simply, I believe that he believes in what he espouses, and will do everything in his power to follow through, and that's where the message of hope comes in. His platforms, his speeches, his goals, they might not be achievable, but at least he's going to try.
So I'm like you. Watching out for the next four years and hoping he'll manage to achieve at least some of what he's set out to do. :)
Eh - I understand how you feel. I'm a big-time supporter, but I'm nervous too. I fully expect him to be so caught-up in cleaning up this mess the country's in that a lot of these lofty promises probably WON'T be fulfilled in one, or even two terms. He may just be the guy to lay the groundwork for change
