Very nice! The analysis gives a lot to mull over for my own interpretation of him and gives me another kick in the pants to do that Terra-as-Leon's-brother ficlet.

TANGENT IS GO. Square did two Super Mario games, actually, and they did put some Final Fantasy elements into both. The first, Super Mario RPG for the Super NES (I've put a date on myself, I know), has an FF style hidden boss who appears with the elemental crystals and battle music from... FFV I think, but it could be IV. And like many hidden bosses in Square games, he's stronger than the final boss. The second, Mario Hoops 3-on-3 for the DS, has a moogle playable from the start and you can unlock other FF critters.

Am I the only would love to see what Square would do with the Legend of Zelda? Never mind that FFI contains a reference to the series...

^_^ I was only aware of Mario RPG, but indeed I assumed there were more. And of course, as a somewhat obscure note, Square sometimes gets Breath of Fire attributed to them even though they just released it originally in the US - they had nothing to do with creating it.

(Considering the unevenness of Square's recent releases? No.)

YES.

This is an amazingly insightful look at Leon. I love your advice on playing with his canons - that's really the best, most fun, and most potentially fascinating way to deal with any of the FF characters in KH. I have my fanon for him, based on my interpretation, which includes where Laguna and Rinoa are and who trained Leon to fight and what he personally treasures. I have good reasons for all of it and I like it. I've read interpretations of Leon I really didn't agree with, also based on good reasons, and liked them too. It's fun! The FF characters in KH are like a sandbox, really. Just follow the basic rules, and then the sky's the limit.

Totally memming this.

I CONCUR. Haven't seen anything this detailed in a while; major props. I love this breakdown of Leon's character in its entirety, but a few things in particular that really got me thinking:

...what sixteen year old blames HIMSELF for the loss of his hometown, especially when it's fairly common knowledge (to him) that the witch Maleficent was involved?

So why does he blame himself so much? Why did he expect to have any bearing on the outcome? Did he at some point assist Maleficent either consciously or unwittingly?

Okay, first of all, the idea that he was once assisting Maleficent is amazing and I want to see that written (well). Second of all, that whole bit about self-blame made me think of trying to incorporate the GFs in FFVIII. Now I feel like writing Leon (then Squall) trying to use Quezacotl to fight Heartless and somehow helping speed up the destructive process, or at least being the reason why he survived but other people he cared about didn't... Gah!

Even random residents of Traverse Town may think 'That Leon is a good ( ... )

1. Thank you. ^_^

2. I'm guilty of writing him as helping KH1!Ansem... I like that idea too. If you do end up writing something incorporating the GF's, drop me a line - I'd like to read it.

3. I've seen ship-essay communities, but not a single-character-specific one. I'd love to contribute, though. I wish I could write one of these for everyone in KH but I sadly have not formed more than a passing acquaintance with certain characters.
