KH fandom, we need to have a talk again. I know, I know---lack of new material tends to make it harder for new stories if you have no imagination and so you turn to other things to inspire you in your fic writing. That's good!

... well, here's the thing. Inspiration is one thing. Blatant copying of the idea is another.

yet another mermaid story... )

plagiarism, crossovers

Now I have a horrible desire to shop Sora's face onto Triton...

...Bad image of Sora with a fake beard tied to his face and rippling abs.

If they like The Little Mermaid so much, why don't they just write fics about the characters... since, oh, I dunno, they're canon KH characters...

Oh, but I forgot, Disney is lame... /Sarcasam

And I've gotta say, this is the wierdest "ripoff" I've heard of, usually is a popular ship in the place of Ariel and Eric, like Kairi and Sora, or Axel and Roxas.

But, but… if they're gonna be using a Disney musical… [/taking things seriously]

*nods* It's odd. And then there's that the characters in question might not act the same way, and hell, there're different versions of the tale- why not mess around with them? I mean, I didn't think the other one I read when I was young ended all that well, but the air-elemental reincarnation times versus human lifespan could make for a fun conversation, depending on how events played out up to it (and if that got used, I guess).

A girl named Crystal is the daughter of Sora, and a guy named Kaiden is the son of Riku. Either those two names and parental situations are more common than I thought, or an author that I thought had been reformed just took a turn for the stupid. *goes to investigate this*

My fears have been realized. I know the author of this from a forum I go on; we were mocking her fics, and after her initial explosion she got over it and let us help her. And now... well, I can say we never covered 'plagarism=bad' because she never did this kind of thing before but come on! *goes off to write a very stern PM in which copyright laws shall be mentioned*

Oh dear. Good luck reforming your friend again!

Well, I sent her a review explaining about copyright infringement about an hour ago, and I know she's on because she's lurking around the Project AFTER forums, but I haven't gotten a reply.
