This isn't directed at any one specific person, but rather at a section of the Kingdom Hearts fandom, namely the section that writes about Repliku. There aren't many of us, and so we have a much larger ratio of good fic to bad. However, there's this one disturbing trend that's been bugging me for a while...

I like how you assume and make it sound like we’re all idiots and ‘follow the trend’.

I’m speaking for myself here, as a large fan and role-player of Rep, when I say that you should stop lumping us into the generalization that we don’t know what “Nisemono” means and that we just copy everyone else. That’s not the case here-at least not with me. (Although I do know other people who use the name as well, and are fully aware of it’s meaning.)

And, perhaps as a reminder, that’s your own opinion, you voiced it, now I’ll voice mine because I’m taking this personally although you said it’s not directed at anyone specific. I just put a lot of thought and feeling and hard work into my Rep and its just aggravation reading what you just wrote.

But maybe the person who’s got the wrong conclusion here is you, because you’re assuming all of this when I highly fucking doubt that any of it is really true. Rep is a small-time character that is largely forgotten (as sad as I am to say and admit) and, with that, I believe that whoever takes it upon ( ... )

As I said to riku_replica, you're completely correct in that my generalizations were bad. Honestly, I'm sure there are some people (less sure it's even a majority at this point) who use it as I said, and others who don't.

And yes,I think people do use it with a limited knowledge of what it means. I might be wrong and they might know what it means, but they're using it for no other reason than it's a name and people don't like to use epithets all over the place. Because, yes, putting in all that time is great, and it gives you a great place to work from when you're either RPing or writing that character -- but are you going to say that every single person who writes him does that? Because that's how that reads to me, and isn't that a little optimistic ( ... )

You know, I'm actually so goddamn surprised that you didn't blow up at us. Mostly me. I was prepared for a full-out wankfest here, but guess one of us has to be the mature one, right? Sorry, though. For my uh, tone. Honestly, I was pretty offended since I put so much hard work into him, ya know? But anyway.

seriously, I'm not being optimistic. I just don't (or can't, really) believe that anyone who RP's Rep would just.. Name him Nise without knowing what it is. And.. maybe it's because I don't see many Rep writers/Rpers. I only know of like... three. Myself and Autumn included, so. :| blaahh.

And yeah, aha, I would really appreciate it you were more... direct with who you were growling at, because again, ._____. I got super super offended by this post and just.. felt like crying because I'm just so sensitive when it comes to Rep, because it's like... he's my baby @_@ and I felt like you were criticizing everything I tried to make out for him. Murr. But again, thanks for being so calm and understanding about this. You have no idea ( ... )

Honestly, I happen to like reading wank, but have no desire to appear in any, and blowing up would have made wank. And apology totally accepted, by the way.

There're more Rep writers/RPers than that (although, granted, not many more), and some of them are...not that great, writing-wise or characters-wise.

No problem. I admit, this was kinda building for a while, after occasional twitches at the name when (IMO, maybe the author had a reason, maybe not) it wasn't necessary, and then it sort of exploded when the person on my flist thought that Naminé named him that. That was mostly my issue: that the name's becoming a fandom term that people use without knowing what it means. >_As for my views, umm. I happen to have a sort of melting-pot of characterizations for him, because I read him in fics and other people's RPs before I ever wrote him myself, so I combined different the parts that fit with my image of him -- mostly I incorporated extrapolations of, or more expansive ideas that agreed with, what I originally had ( ... )

Let me just begin by saying that your opening paragraph makes you sound like a narrow-minded elitist. Whether or not you actually are, I don't know. However, anyone who blindly lumps large groups of people together for the sake of making broad assumptions about what they are or aren't like (Japanese fanbrats who don't know what "nisemono" means) is stereotyping. It doesn't look good, and it's not going to make people who disagree with you feel like listening to what you have to say. If you can approach it from a more... neutral, perhaps less disgusted, and more understanding tone, I think you'll get further ( ... )

You're right, and I've apologized above for those generalizations (and edited the post itself). When I wrote the rant, I was annoyed and so I wasn't careful in the language I used. My bad.

You're right, I do assume that. In canon, my perception is that it's used only in a derogatory fashion, by people who are trying to hurt him. I agree that by the end of the manga, you could make an argument that he's okay with being called fake. Except for the little fact that, in the English version, he never meets Riku and so isn't really exposed to the name as much as in game-canon.

Now, if the author who is using the term wants to emphasize the fact that he's not healthy, I'd still prefer fake, but the case for Nisemono or Nise could be made. If the author is willing to go and explore why he's mentally healthy and still calls himself fake, then I'll buy it.

See, I'm not saying that someone who is mentally healthy can't refer to themselves as something derogatory; I've seen that myself. You're correct: my interpretation is that he's not going ( ... )
