This isn't directed at any one specific person, but rather at a section of the Kingdom Hearts fandom, namely the section that writes about Repliku. There aren't many of us, and so we have a much larger ratio of good fic to bad. However, there's this one disturbing trend that's been bugging me for a while...

I've always just used Kagami for his name, or Repliku. I've heard Nise used a few times, but eh, never fit with me. e__e

...oh, dear. *did not know this* The rare times I've seen him in fic, most of the time he's either called Repliku, Riku, or... Nisémono. >_< So I told someone that that MIGHT have been his name. OOPS.

I always thought Nisemono was some sort of fandom name, and kind of went 'Bzuh?' at it and left it alone. Word, though, totally and completely. This whole scenario kind of reminds me of how in the Digimon fandom, there was a rumor going around that a character named Ken's name was really Satoru because of how the kanji was written, in spite of the fact that the character was very obviously called Ken by everyone. D:

I usually use 'Riku' when discussing Repliku. I mean.. he is Riku. Calling the real Riku 'Real Thing' and not his name makes it pretty clear that he won't be giving himself a different name anytime soon, I think. :O Not everyone has Leon/Squall complex- ::shot::

I saw someone comment that Nisemono was the noun version of 'fake'. Really it's like 'fake thing', as the kanji for 'mono' is used for objects. Similiarly, when Kadaj says 'uraigirimono'. "Traitorous thing". But if we got that literal, we could never properly translate anything without it sounding like garbage. XD

But omgagreed on the Repliku thing. I laugh every time I see 'Nisemono' in a fic. ... Dude. I should write a fic with him naked 'Fake'. XD

Bonus points for referencing The Red Badge of Courage. SOMEONE WENT TO SCHOOL IN FANDOM. I LOVE IT. The problem with this, however, is that the book is High School Level. KH is aimed at a younger group.

You're right, and I actually was entirely not aiming this at you, or anyone who uses it intentionally; I'm sorry that it came across that way. I shouldn't have generalized so much.

I have no idea, re: character arrangement; that could very well be the case, and if so, I guess I owe some more apologies. In my defense, I was aiming this more at people who call him Nisemono because of something they heard or read in the original Japanese, and I'm pretty sure that the characters in that are for fake, or something very similar

Yeah, the post was written when I was very annoyed, and I wasn't careful about the generalizations.

I've actually seen Nise far, far less than Nisemono, now that I think about it. It certainly looks and sounds more like a KH name, and with the reason backing it up, that could make for some pretty cool fic.

Thank you, although I wish that wasn't true. Fanbrats have a way of taking something that could be decent and ruining it, which is a shame.

I've been thinking it over, and I think that if I needed a name for him (and couldn't simply use "the replica"), I'd use Riku. In some ways, calling him that (especially post-CoM) can be worse than calling him Nisemono, but it's one that he'd register, it gives whoever I'm talking or writing to (assuming they know the games) an immediate mental image, and, if I'm using it in a fic and want to go for something a little mindfuck-y, it can be downright creepy and very, very obvious who I'm talking about, at the same time
