I'm noticing a pattern.

I was thinking about Demyx/Zexion, and i've realized something: Almost every large fandom has a pairing between a chatty, silly, childlike character and a silent, moody character. In the Inuyasha fandom, it's Sesshomaru/Rin. In the Teen Titans fandom, it's Beast Boy/Raven and why anyone would write Beast Boy/Anyone, I don't know. It skirts too

I agree that a lot of the Zemyx fandom does do that to Demyx and Zexion, and it probably drives me a lot more insane than people who don't ship the pairing. I mean, come on, these are two characters who I know and love, and I enjoy exploring their various nuances as a pairing. I don't like seeing them mutilated like that.

However, not all those who write the pairing do that. Zemyx isn't just a childlike innocent/silent moody person pairing gone wrong, which seems to be what you're implying. It could just be my brain dying that makes me see that in this particular rant, but hey, I call what I see.

Eh, that's fandom for you. The fact that so many of the typical OOC, badfic authors probably didn't play Chain of Memories doesn't help. Though I agree about Zexion; he rambles almost as much as "Ansem", and as for Demyx, he never struck me as overly happy or childish. More or less, he seemed like someone who put on the coward act to save his own hide.

The amount of badfic is probably one of my problems with Zexion/Demyx.

I've actually written a fic with the two of them - not pairing but possible as pre-pairing - simply to understand how the characters /could/ work together. I know that there are popular Zexion/Demyx fics, but I tend to not recognize Demyx or Zexion when I read them. Part of this is interpretation; we only know so much about them, but part of it is, well. To be honest, a lot of them use the cheerful-or-at-least-not-dark-and-manipulative Demyx saving the cold-sad-and-secretly-lonely Zexion with his love. And. That's just sort of weird.

This is the main reason I don't like the Zexion x Demyx pairing, because most of the fandom for it hinges on these stereotypes and not who Zexion and Demyx actually are.

Not to mention that most of the fic I've read for it follows the same format:

Demyx: Picnic! La la la♥!

Zexion: *thinking* stfu idiot. *emos*

Demyx: No be emo!

Zexion: *thinking* He's kind of cute.

Points to anyone who can spot the reference I snuck in there.
