I seriously just had this conversation

I'm back in the States for a little while, taking care of family-type stuff. I went out with my sister to a small party with some old friends from our high school. And actually had this conversation with a woman, we'll call her 'Not great at geography' or NGAG for short ( Read more... )

That's kind of how I feel about anything west of Ealing. Even though I've been there, it all feels like a dream.

Kind of a dull dream where you wake up with a headache.

NOW it's funny. At the time, we were both a little mortified. I actually had to show her on a smartphone where they both were because when I expanded with things like 'Saudi Arabia' and 'south of Algeria' she looked like I'd hit her with a brick.

"Timbuktu is also a real place."
"You're kidding."
"No."

This should be in a movie or TV show, stat.

A friend of mine told me ages ago that one of her friends, while she was staying in the US for a year (must have been 2001, she went to school there) was asked by her classmates if she didn't have to go home because of the war (in Afghanistan).
She's German.

On the other hand, as far as the US (and lots of other countries) are concerned, I fear I'm a NGAG as weill (I just always look for everything on google maps)

I travel a LOT, so I have to have a sense of place; I should be more understanding. The planet is getting smaller....but apparently not for everyone. :)
