Thanks for the notice that TCC is only half of its novel; I should wait until I've got the whole thing before I start it.

You're in for a treat with The Gilded Chain, which while very much genre fantasy, is quite well done.

'Abrupt' is an understatement.

Semi-spoiler:

I found The Clan Corporate to be right at my limit of how much unrecompensed crap I want to see a protagonist take, and the abrupt cutoff before she could do anything useful about it didn't help at all.

I will, however, continue to read the series for at least one more book.
