FWIW, my now nearly 15 year old cat Nika came pretty close to kidney failure years ago. I was going to say 5 years, but it could have been as long as 8 years ago since I think we were in our old house. We had recently lost another very large cat to the same problem so were able to catch Nika's problems early - put her on sub-Q fluids and whatever else they had us doing - and we can very luckily say that she is still with us. *knocks on every wooden surface within reach*

I have no idea how old your cat is, but you're doing the right things so he's got a good chance. :)

Felix is just turning 15, and I desperately want him around for at least another few years. But I'm just happy that he's back to his old self, at least for now.

We have a beloved 15 year old cat going through the same thing, poor baby.
