The mint tortures me.

For any of those interested, coin collecting is just a really bad idea.

I can say this with almost no doubt at all.  It all started innocently enough as a kid, finding coins that looked different than the normal circulation stuff... Mountie quarters, pennies with the dove, and the rabbit nickles.  Oh, but it always escalates... buying the old pink $2 bills from former members of The Guess Who (who probably had a stash in a shoe-box under his bed; what else could explain him buying cigarettes while wearing his wife's dressing gown?).

It's the slippery slope.  But once the Mint gets their hooks into you, they keep sending you catalogues.

Price-wise these coins are definitely out of reach, but I do have to say that there are so many things I like about this collection.  Not only are they cool, stylised images of a barn owl, polar bear, orca, and black-footed ferret, but they're also gold (shiny!), square, and have a $3 denomination.

The first thing that comes to mind is the old saying "Queer as a three-dollar bill".  It does make me wonder if there is a certain sense of humour going on there, or if this just happens to a coincidence.

I'm going to opt for sense of humour.  It all fits together so perfectly!
