And then there's that big mistake.
Sometime during the day I was reflecting back on the saying "Queer as a three-dollar bill" that I used in my last post and then thinking to myself "Self, is this actually a slur against GLTB folks?"
If anyone took it that way, I certainly do apologise as it wasn't my intent! Then again, a lot of people like to say "gypped" and are never enlightened to that, either. So I'm hoping to make amends by learning. Albeit very slowly, it seems.
The funny thing about my memories of the saying is that I'd often hear the oldsters in town use it, but never about people. There was never a "he's queer", but more if a strange event happened it would've been a "queer thing".
Since what one writes pretty much has to stand on its own I can't excuse the way it comes across, but even my little bit of research shows that the meaning of the word changed in the early 20th century.
I may feel old some days, but definitely not that old!
