Alas, bread.

Last night was a bit of a later night than I like to do during the work-week, as I offered to pick up my mother-in-law at the airport.  I had a chance meeting with atara as she was waiting for plonq's flight to arrive.

It's nice talking to human beings again!

Since it is getting close to pay-day and the budget is a bit on the thin side at the moment, I decided to set up a loaf of bread in the bread maker so that the loaf would be ready in the morning.

Everything worked perfectly, and this morning I set the lovely loaf on my counter to cool while I had my shower.  Being first thing in the morning, the one thing that I did not think of was a recent event involving a loaf of bread.

I came out of the shower and the dog met me in the hallway.  She dropped something on the carpet that made a vaguely metallic sound; the paddle from the bread maker.  Since I was in a hurry I did not yet dig the paddle out of the loaf of bread, so I knew what was next.

Yes... my little counter barricade was pushed to the side and the cooling rack was empty.  My 1.5 pounds of bread had disappeared into Miss Elsabeth.

Never being good at knowing how to properly punish the dog, I'm currently making her lay down in the bedroom while I have breakfast out here.  I don't know if it'll make very much impact, but I figure (in the most egocentric way) that keeping her separated from me is probably a reasonably big punishment that she can understand.

Alas... it's time to start putting the baby gate back across the kitchen door.

I miss you, bread!
