The Doorless Elevator

The elevator in our hotel is unlike any I've ever seen. It serves seven floors (0 through 6, with 0 being the basement), and it does not have integral doors. Instead, each floor has a door that interlocks with the elevator so that you can only open it when the elevator is stopped on that floor. I wonder what would happen if the elevator got stuck between floors!

I wish you hadn't made me think about that, although the practical answer is that the front-desk clerk would probably hear us yelling. To that extent, it's better than the elevator in which we got stuck in Helsinki. In that case, the only way we got out was when someone went to the upper floor and pushed the call button, which fortunately did actually call the elevator up and open it.
