It's Australian Open time again, which is the Tennis grand slam whose matches happen at times actually convenient for me to watch, with the day sessions starting at 4 PM Pacific and the night sessions available on replay when I get up in the morning. I have to say, having been in the Melbourne Tennis Centre for another purpose (singing the Verdi Requiem with a thousand other people and Pavarotti as a soloist) that I would not attend the Aussie Open if you paid me. Nothing against the event, but man, that place is HOT. Like surface of the sun hot..

A good point, although I understand the weather at this year's tournament is not as extreme as it has been known to get. But hey, I'd take the trip even if I had to spend my two days huddled in the shade and misting towers. Mind you, I'd likely try to extend the trip, using the contest win for the transportation and then trying to work in some sort of train trip. Maybe up to Cairns, and yes, I'm aware that it's a non-trivial distance.

It's supposed to be a nice train trip. I've always wanted to do the train trip to Perth across the Nullarbor, preferably in time to catch the famous Perth spring wildflowers. Some people say the trip is monotonous, but I like deserts.
