we had a tree when i was in high school (we being the large gaggle of teenagers i hung out with)
it is the big tree on the south west end in the park at harbourd and grace. we named him twigg, on "the hill". we'd climb him, and we attached a rope and we swung from him (ok, i didn't...) he was out meeting place, and often you could just go by and there would be someone there to hang with.
What a great topic! :) I had a couple of favourite trees growing up. One was a great weeping willow tree in my maternal grandparent's backyard. My family lived with my grandparents for a few years when I was very young, and then we continued to spend a lot of time at this house in my youth. I remember it being a huge tree that sheltered the swingset we had in the backyard. There was tons of great play under that tree. Unfortunately it was cut down quite some time ago

From the earliest depths of my memory: Big Tree, which was out in front of the first house I remember living in. He was, indeed, big; I spent a lot of my time playing outside, under him. Never could manage to climb him, though- as a wee thing, I could hardly get my arms 1/3 of the way around him. I once had a dream where he spoke to me
