From the earliest depths of my memory: Big Tree, which was out in front of the first house I remember living in. He was, indeed, big; I spent a lot of my time playing outside, under him. Never could manage to climb him, though- as a wee thing, I could hardly get my arms 1/3 of the way around him. I once had a dream where he spoke to me.
I think he's been cut down now.
We spent the longest time at our house on Stephenson Road. The huge lawn out front had a gorgeous willow tree right in the center. It was forever sick from the steady supply of car exhaust coming from the 4-lane semihighway out front, and our insane clean freak neighbours were always trying to convince my parents to have it cut down.
They never did. I remember many pleasant sunny days coming home from school and dancing through the long hanging branches on my way in.
In the backyard, there were several massive maple trees. The red one had a simple rope swing strung up on one particularly perfect branch by my dad. It stayed there for fifteen years, and the branch absorbed the rope that encircled it. No grass grew under the tree, because the leaves were too thick and shady. I valued this tree especially because of this- it allowed me to sit outside without being exposed to the sun.
We also had a misshapen crab apple tree in that yard. I once sustained a lovely scrape from it's rough bark right across the face during an extremely silly manure fight between me and my parents. Enough said, I think. XD
