notes on basic research on dopamine, B6, C, and mercury

This is a post wherein I ramble about dopamine, vitamins B6 and C, and mercury toxicity.

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor. I'm not even trained in nutrition or diet or anything health-related. This type of research is a hobby. Take from it what you will.

Hmm... And from some of your previous research, I learned that mercury is a potential cause of gluten intolerance (the kind that results in opiate increase) because it inhibits certain enzymes. Do you think a mercury detox could reverse that? I've been thinking about trying it, but I keep putting it off...

I have come across differing opinions with respect to mercury and gluten sensitivity (have I posted about this before? I don't remember...).

This site on autism has this to say with respect to keeping an autistic child on a GFCF (gluten-free casein-free) diet:
Bernie Windham has written a paper that describes how mercury interferes with the enzyme that is needed to digest gluten and casein. Many people who are mercury toxic are sensitive to food that are high in sulfur, which includes all dairy products. Regarding yeast: Mercury causes damage to the immune system, and a weakened immune system allows yeast, bacteria and and all sorts of other nasties to proliferate in the body. Yeast overgrowth can cause "leaky gut"-a condition in which the lining of the intestine becomes somewhat porous, allowing undigested particles to enter the bloodstream, causing allergic reactions. Mercury toxic individuals often suffer from food allergies. Therefore, a GFCF (gluten and casein-free) diet is probably a good idea before and during chelation. ( ... )

This site says that gluten and casein may be beneficial for carrying mercury out of the body:

These [studies] show that components in both dairy and grain foods bind with heavy metals (mercury specifically) and help facilitate their removal. There is a good possibility that if you are wanting to remove heavy metals or otherwise remove toxins, having dairy and grains in the diet would be beneficial.
