Feeling Grateful

Sep 18, 2016 11:19

I just got back from the store, and while I was carrying the bags into the house my dog greeted me with her usual bouncing joy to see me again. Whether I've been gone an hour or a day she greets me like she hasn't seen me in a year. It made me happy, like she always does, and I said a little prayer that I never take that greeting for granted. That ( Read more... )

Exactly! And many of those people--maybe most--I have got to know either at a con or online. Which fills my world with new friends, new experiences and great community through the stories, art and vids.

Beautifully said, Dawn! It's fabulous how we can meet these people that we admire and then look at that--new friends.

I mention this to Flamingo from time to time and I'll say it here--I was a nervous wreck meeting her for the first time in 2001. I mean, it was FLAMINGO, and she wrote TEotH and was this huge star to me... fast forward a few years and she's drinking coffee in my kitchen.

Fandom = friends.

In 2004, I was a wreck just to come to SHarecon. The baby I'd cared for had just died at the hospital, I only knew one fan in person who was coming and I felt so shy. Flamingo claims this did not happen, but I know it did--when we first met, she hugged me! Because I had written Bound to the Law. All my worries dropped away. ;-) I had found my tribe.

That's so sweet! I can believe she hugged you for writing Bound, since it was so unique to our fandom.

You felt shy in 2004? I hope I was welcoming to you... that whole con is such a blur to me because it was the year I premiered six new zines, including Evolution 1 & 2, which was such a gigantic project. I know it was the con where I first met Molo. A lot of it is a blur!

Yep, that was Molo's first con, too. I really don't remember who I met--I followed CC and a group out to dinner one night, and was so glad I did! I remember meeting Kimberly the very first night, a bunch of us sitting in the lobby talking.

Hi Nicky!

Yes you did, and I'm so happy you were able to come and spend time here. I think of you whenever I use the beautiful pens you gave me.

That was a fun KeriCon:)

You're so sweet, thank you! That's one of the benefits of living alone--I get to have a Scarlet room and a Starsky and Hutch room and all the cats I want:)

I also remember how hot it was in Texas! :)
And I got a bonus when I was visiting you - I could meet Sue David!

July in Texas is sizzling hot! So is August, but it starts to get better after that.

Sue loved meeting you, too!
