Saturday love going on here. French toast for breakfast, good coffee, friends stopping in. My routine is a little off, though, since my DVR decided to dump all of my recordings for the week, so no watching for me. I guess that's another lesson in trying to do better to keep up with things as they're happening. Watch shows when they're actually

All prayers, good wishes, happy thoughts, candles--whatever you have in you--for KAM would be deeply appreciated.
All day, every day. Sent her the package of goodies we discussed, went out yesterday. Probably just in time for her to already be gone to the hospital. :(

You're right, she would, she's a doll, but I hate to bug her now with a new baby and all.

You're such a sweetie.

It doesn't matter when she gets them, they'll make her so happy!
As for the hospital, she doesn't go in until Tuesday morning. I don't think we'll know how long she'll be there until then.
Dear God, she's so fragile right now.

It's funny, though... the little time you have free with a new baby vanishes completely once they find their feet, and you long for the days they were so needy but immobile :D
The Raunchy Story must go through! :::bellowed, with reverb, like the Mighty Oz:::

Thanks for the nudge on Marcy, Nik. I think I'll do that and not let the raunchy part make me nervous!
Oh, and congrats on your Torino nom! It's well-deserved.
I have other thoughts on the Torinos. I might just post to my LJ twice in one day!

Aw, bless you for saying so. It's a very varied field this year, and wide open.

Oh, definitely. Looking forward to reading your perspective.
My oldest "baby" turns 16 next week, but both he and his sister are in a low-maintenance phase for right now... Thank God!
Driving comes next, though, and I'm quaking in my boots :D

Yeah, I had a look earlier and I see what you mean.

I wrote for twenty minutes, had a brief moment of common sense and read it back to myself, and backed out. I think I might be too opinionated right now because of hormones, menopause that's trying to make me crazy, and, oh, my regular personality. I believe in awards and recognition. Believe in it hugely, but I have some issues with the Torinos--just for the last few years. In some ways they also make me sad, too, because so many of our gen writers have left us--the ones that used to grace the Torino awards every year. My Paula, of course, Ellis Murdock, Sue David, Valerie Wells, Minnie K., and many others. And other stuff. But I'll leave it at that ( ... )

The line between recognition for achievement, and a bare-faced popularity contest can be very hard to define and establish. I've seen some pretty shrewd posts all but asking outright for votes... but on the other hand, the Torinos are one of only two Awards efforts I've ever been a part of, so maybe it's the same everywhere anymore...there's a certain clique-iness in some quarters, but that can be true of the workplace, a neighborhood, or any other non-fannish space else, too.
I wholeheartedly agree that it's a shame so many of the greats are gone from the fandom, either physically--literally--or in terms of where their interests now lie.
I wish I'd read far more this past year, just to keep up with the influx of new talent that's emerging.
Oh, and when the driving things starts, trust me, you'll hear my wailing about it from coast to coast :D

LOL. Yup, it almost makes me want to vote for them out of sympathy. Almost...

Just wanted to say hello. And I hope I don't interrupt a conversation between you and Nik.:-) It's interesting to hear about the Torino award. The BCL was the first archive I found when I discovered fanfiction in 2003. I was hooked immediately and read my way through all stories in the available archives, found my favorite authors and learned soon what "slash" meant.:-)
In 2005 I started writing myself and had to admit that feedback meant the world to me. It's ridiculous but it seems we need the support to feel encouraged to go on writing, that includes nominations for an award.:-)
Now something important: My thoughts are always with KAM and I hope so much that her health will improve soon.
Keri, enjoy the weekend!
Btw, have you written any fanfiction?
Take care..-) Monika

Lol, I read my first slash story, not knowing it was slash. Imagine my confusioon and surprise when in Candy Apple's story "The Best Thing" our guys got together at the end:-) Then I read Charlotte Frost's stories, found out that molo wrote excellent slash stories - and got a hint about Flamingo's novel "Total Eclipse...".
I have always loved writing and haven't regretted trying my hands at writing fanfiction. As you say, it's such a fulfilling hobby and I love it!
I don't expect you to read my SH stories, but I would appreciate it if you signed the guestbook on my website. http://oasis3017.tripod.com/
Do you know KAM personally? How come that some people touch our heart without having met them? I feel that way about KAM and some other lovable people:-)
Talk to you again, lovable:-)

Thanks for pointing the way to your site--you've done a lovely job with it, and I look forward to exploring it/reading soon. I was honored to sign your guestbook.
Some of your favorite writers are my favorites, too.
I hope your writing always feeds your soul....
As for KAM, we live in different states so seeing each other in person--especially factoring in her illness--is not possible right now, but we've known each other since 2001, built a friendship through email at first, and it's grown deeper and deeper over the years. We talk on the phone two or three times a week depending on how she's feeling. That's more than I talk to some of my blood relatives, so it's a personal friendship for us.
Thanks again for your caring. You're a sweetie.

I think I understand what you mean by "get the vote out". Keri, you explained it, too. It's the thing that bothers me regarding the awards. I got the feeling that there's a bunch of people who nominate each other, not caring for the quality of the stories. It's an award, made from friends for their friends. Other writers who aren't supported by such a group, don't have a real chance to be rewarded for their work. And it's always the same stories that are nominated, year after year.
Otherwise, I love awards.:-)
