"player in VR game suddenly winds up in another world"

Only story I've ever even heard of with that concept was a book I read in middle school called "Invitation to The Game" by Monica Hughes. It starts in an overcrowded dystopia where robots do most of the work and most people are unemployed and very poor, but then the main character and some others who also just graduated from high school get invited to this VR game / test thing where they play every day in a VR world that's an alien planet for so long and spend more and more time playing it. Then comes the time when they realize it's no longer a game -- they were shipped off to colonize this other planet with like, nothing but the skills they developed in the game. So it became a survival story, and I was really into survival stories in that era.
