Well, it was my first response, so I guess I'll say it.

Yes!   Yes, yes, yes!

At last Haldir has grown some sense...please don't kill him now. **looks pitiful**

A beautiful, heartrending, perfect chapter, Kenaz!

**hugs**

Heh heh heh.

I was actually thinking "Well, it's about f'cking time!" when I wrote this chapter.

But as for what happens next...*sigh.*

Thanks for your kind words. I don't know about "perfect," but hey-- I'll take it! ;D

And I think I can write? Ha! Beside this, what I do is little more than scribbling. I continue to be awed by this recounting of Haldir's evolution through the centuries. You have given him something even the good professor did not - a life all his own. And you have made the Golden Wood so real one can almost see, hear, even smell everything that makes it such a unique realm among the Elves. And after all his waiting and forbearance I am more than glad that Galion has finally been recognized and claimed for what he is - a treasure without compare. Thank you for such an enthralling and utterly compelling tale, Kenaz.

And thank *you* for your kind (in my opinion, too kind) words! It's nice to think that Haldir finally has evolved. Well, one hopes he has, anyway. You can never quite be sure with stubborn Marchwardens, as Elemmakil long ago proved.

And I'm glad my rendering of Lorien feels real to you... I seem to spend a lot of time there in my brain. :)

I hope the rest of the tale will keep you suitably enthralled!

And I think I can write? My sentiment exactly. :) Another wonderfully done part, dear. Though I must admit it came as sort of surprise for me that after all those years Haldir was able to realize the true value of what Galion was offering him. Nice to know that at least in fiction unwavering love and loyalty is rewarded in the end. :) Such a life-asserting thought. :)

I think that's why we *need* fiction-- because it is life-affirming. If only real life were so easy and clear-cut...

Wow. Wow! This was absolute brilliance, dear, as well as the only fic in memory to ever force me to crack out the old thesaurus. Incredibly vivid, intelligent, and visceral writing. Extraordinary, and unforeseen by me, character development. Galion's disbelief, soon parlayed into exultant acceptance, was terribly fulfilling. Haldir's epiphany, which I needed some convincing of, by the end was beautiful in its subtlety. Everything he decides fits perfectly, for you have been building him steadily all along.

I say again, incredible. An author operating on full cylinders, with the tides of fate, the crude realities of warcraft, and the inevitable of love fuelling a heart-swelling locomotive of a piece. Lyrical and poignant, I feel priviledged for just being able to read something so poetic.

Masterful, dear.

I'm going to ignore the fact that you dodged Min's question, not to mention the stench of inevitability.

Take the best of care,

G. ;D

Well, I am seriously priviledged as a writer to have such wonderful readers! However, you may find yourself wishing you had reserved the word 'locomotive' for later use. As in "I wish to tie the authoress down to the railroad tracks that she may be flattened by an oncoming locomotive."

But what's that I smell? *sniff!* *sniff!* Ah, yes... inevitability.

You said it, not I. ;D

what fun it be if I made it easy?

I know. I'm bracing myself. "Lie back and think of Valinor" sort of thing. And with you writing it... well.

Cheers,

This chapter left me feeling both extremely happy and as apprehensive as I'd felt when I realised in Son of Guilin that there was only one way for Haldir to become marchwarden, and that a notable Elf like Elemmakil would have been mentioned in FOTR if he were still in the Golden Wood. Whilst the getting-together with Galion was quite a big relief, the fact that we're only on Chapter 5 and there are battles ahead means that I'm currently torturing myself by imagining the various ways their relationship could be damaged or destroyed ( ... )

Oh, thank you for such a kind review! I'm glad you like Galion-- I'm rather partial to the lad myself. Perhaps Haldir has finally figured out what a dolt he's been.

But as you've pointed out, we're merely at chapter 5, and there are battles ahead. It wouldn't be any fun if I made it easy for them, would it? Haldir's life has come full circle, in a sense, but the tale is far from over...

*tries to look innocent*
