Far From You by Lisa Schroeder

Yeah, I know you just saw a review of this book here at my blog. But today's review is by the inimitable M, who is pestering me to post it. Post it now! And so, here is what 14-yo M had to say about Lisa Schroeder's latest novel in verse:

Far From You by Lisa Schroeder brought tears to my eyes (and more than once, may I add). In Far From You, our main character Alice (named after her mother's love of Alice in Wonderland) faces her anger at her father and stepmom and even her newborn half-sister in a different kind of way. Her mom died of pancreatic cancer, and her dad re-married Victoria, who soon gave birth to Ivy (Alice's half-sister). There are 2 people Alice loves now: Blaze (her boyfriend) and Claire (her best friend).

The happy family (plus Alice) go on a car trip from Seattle to California to visit Alice's stepmom's parents. Little did they know that her dad would be called away, leaving her with her least favorite people. Victoria and Alice decide to pack up and leave to beat the massive storm, but wind up in the eye of it.

Far From You perfectly shows Alice's icy exterior melt as life becomes about helping Ivy and Victoria, not just about herself. This book is filled with love, so strong it made me cry. I adore this book with a passion. It was amazingly well-written and such a great story line. I loved it so much, I would say 6 out of 5 stars if I was doing my movie ratings. Beautiful book. I give it my seal of high approval!
