A lazy Tuesday post

First, thanks for the get-well vibes. They have (mostly) worked, and I have only the slightest residuals of yesterday's massive headache. Probably a migraine, which I get on rare occasions and can never identify whilst I'm in the midst of one. Why is that? (Rhetorical, unless you know the answer.)

I need to see these books in my hands someday -- where I can really look at them. Your reviews have been quite positive.

Why? Because migraines mess with your head.
In a more than painful way, that is.

Mine usually come with aphasia, and occasionally slurred speech or stuttering. Lots of people get auras. Some people experience hemipariesis (where half your body gets numb or paralyzed temporarily). Kids sometimes get the pukes, with no headache whatsoever, which can confuse their grownups.
Ocular migraines can start with partial blindness, which is weird (had that once). More frequently, I've watched the edges of buildings melt.
The thing to remember is-- this is your brain, only with less oxygen than usual and some weird electrical crap going on.

Lots of interesting possibilities, including not connecting the dots about the source of the problem.

Best thing to do is medicate all headaches at the first sign of trouble and avoid the whole mess!

The first time I got migraines was when I was preggers with S. Both times, I was at the mall. I called it "mall sickness," not understanding why I was suddenly nauseated and dizzy and light hurt my eyes and I had a headache and an urgent need to leave the mall, go home, throw up, and sleep.

It was only when I had another headache just like that about 3 years later (and not pregnant), that I figured out what they were. And usually, I puke. But I become extra sensitive to light, noise and odors (including ones that one wouldn't think were bad smells), and my head feels like it's ready to explode, which is what happened the other day, only sans the nausea/puking. No clue what triggered this one - it just turned up. (But in the "weird triggers" category, I have to avoid passion fruit. I ended up with migraines twice after having passion fruit tea.)

Passion fruit-- wow. That *is* weird! The noise/light/nausea stuff is par for the course. I think the lack of connecting the dots that this is a migraine is part of it, too. Just wish you had a way of cueing yourself in early on, when the meds are most effective ( ... )
