I wanna shoot the whole day down

A point to you if you correctly identified that as a quote from the song "I Don't Like Mondays" from the Boomtown Rats. My googling to confirm that I was properly identifyin the title and band turned up a clip about the 16-year old girl who inspired the song: she opened fire with a rifle on a bunch of kids one day, killed the school principal and ( Read more... )

Yeah, Mondays can be worse than Fri 13th! lizannewrites November 12 2007, 15:23:28 UTC
I got the 'can't trust that day' reference -- but never heard of Boomtown Rats.

I think this grey Monday needs some hot chocolate! something to jumpstart it.

I hope all goes well with your daughter and her assignments, hope it's not an all-nighter.

Hot chocolate - I believe I'll join you. And perhaps some toast, too.

The Boomtown Rats were the band headed by Bob Geldof, the guy who organized Band Aid ("Do They Know It's Christmas") and Live Aid and has worked tirelessly for Amnesty International and other rights organizations.

I knew you'd get the Rats references, somehow.

I love Bob, too! I used to want to marry Bob back during the whole LiveAid thing.

Oh, I need to go download that song because it's going to be in my head ALL DAY.

And, yeah, it's hard watching them screw up. My favorite Em line when she screwed something up was, "I'm so mad at you. You didn't nag me about it."

Me: Is that my job? To nag you?

Em: Of course it's your job. God.

Yep. she's said that. I still love her though. And, yeah, it is part of my job, I guess. I just don't like it.

I tried the nagging/encouragement route on this one, which is why she's now claiming it's her dad's fault, and that she wasn't "allowed" to do her homework when she wanted to. But I know there was a lot of time she blew off in there.

I think she agreed to skip a much-looked-forward-to after-school activity in order to come home and get a jump start on her homework. I won't know for sure until she rolls in, though (off the bus, or much later, from a ride with a friend - we organized a carpool for the afterschool thing - she's learning a dance for "Spirit Week", and is carpooling with the lovely Mr. J.)

Sorry to hear dismal autumn has struck your neck of the woods as well...I knew it was going to be a Monday Monday when I was still wide awake, watching the numbers rise on my clock, at 2 am...sigh. (And my right temple continued to throb).

Perhaps things are moving in a better direction -- maybe your daughter will somehow develop amazing super speed and finish all her projects tonight :) (My headache is almost gone, so although tired, at least I'm not tired and in pain, heh).

I was still awake after midnight last night for reasons I can't fathom. Slow breathing and guided relaxation finally did the trick. But today, I'm already tired.
