A point to you if you correctly identified that as a quote from the song "I Don't Like Mondays" from the Boomtown Rats. My googling to confirm that I was properly identifyin the title and band turned up a clip about the 16-year old girl who inspired the song: she opened fire with a rifle on a bunch of kids one day, killed the school principal and custodian, and told police she did it because "I don't like Mondays." The phrase also appears written on a wall in the movie The Breakfast Club. Behold the awesome power of Google and the Interweb. But I digress.
Today is a Monday. A Monday, Monday, the kind you can't trust.* The sky here's gone winter grey already, and there's just enough of a chill and a breeze to make clear that it is autumn. Not splendid autumn, either - dismal autumn, I'm afraid.
And S called me from her second period study hall in a panic because she has two things due for the same class tomorrow. I am not suprised by this, as I repeatedly told her about the deadline last week. Including last Tuesday, Thursday and Friday when she had no school. I told her to be sure stuff was done by last night before she set off with her father for the weekend. And now, she's upset, because stuff is due and she doesn't have it done, and (get this): IT'S NOT HER FAULT! Right now, she's blaming it on her father, which I usually wouldn't mind, but seriously, that's not fair either. It was at that point that the silicon chip inside my head got switched to overload.**
It is difficult, is it not, to watch your children make mistakes? And now, she will have to work it out somehow. Poor lamb. I guess I'll make her something particularly good for dinner, as it promises to be a Very Long Night.
*A point to you if you spotted that as a reference to Monday, Monday by The Mamas and the Papas.
**Another point to you if you knew that was another Boomtown Rats reference.
