I got to bed late last night (don't ask) and up extra early today (part of the new schedule), so my brain already feels addled. I am therefore resorting to a list, alliteratively named "Things on a Thursday

Good luck with your new writing season! I'm back to my old schedule: teach until 3:30, schlep kids around until dinner time, write 9-midnight. I wonder how long it will take me to adjust!
By the way, I double-checked with my editor, and there is no way possible, at all, that you bought my book last week. It's still at the printer. I'm guessing you bought MISS SPITFIRE by Sarah Miller, and if that's the case, you're very lucky even if you didn't mean to buy that book because I'm just finishing it, and it's AMAZING. My SPITFIRE will be in New York and Vermont bookstores by September 29th and at Amazon and Booksense shortly thereafter, I'm guessing.
After I said I was sure it was yours, I read the post where you thought it was Sarah's and went to dig it out. Sure 'nuff, you're correct. And it does look amazing, and I did mean to buy Sarah's book -- but I really thought it was yours, which I will have to wait for. Humph.
Here's the thing that freaked me out about the whole nuclear weapons on the loose business. They say the folks in charge "forgot" to turn off the weapons before they sent the plane up. OK, they said it in a slightly more technical fashion, but that was the gist. Ooops.
The whole thing is pretty awful. On a side rant, I learned while filling out forms for my high school freshman that schools that receive funds for the No Child Left Behind Act are compelled to allow military recruiters to come and talk to all the kids in high school. Let's see -- you can't not follow the act (as a public school at least), and what school isn't desperate for funds these days . . . talk about over a barrel. I signed the form that said they need to get my written permission to talk to my kid. I'm not anti-military, but something about that stipulation stinks, big-time.
