Thoughts of the Day...

♥ I hope that typhoon predicted for this weekend misses us. I'll have to stock up on supplies (water and easy food) in case it heads for us.

♥ Always Look on the Bright Side of Life really is a feel-good song. I should have it on constant loop on my Winamp♥ I'm beginning to get to grips with Japanese grammar. The verbs are still a little tricky ( Read more... )

Eh, I hate those parties with a passion and never throw them. Never ever ever. I also try to get out of attending them as much as possible. Does that mean I don't belong in this country either? What an asshole.

Exactly. I'm sure everyone celebrates their birthday in a manner that suits them, no? There's no one rule for how to celebrate your birthday where I'm from, or in any of the places I've lived. It's always been down to personal preference. If people like circle parties, good for them. I don't hate them myself...I just feel a little lost as there's always a language difference (which I'm working on) and because, frankly, I don't really know my partner's distant cousins all that well. I don't really have anything in common with them and after the pleasantries are over, we're all wondering what to say next. Surely that's not the best way to spend one's birthday?

I've no idea whether he was a disgruntled Dutch man fed up of expats ranting or whether he was one of those 'holier than thou' expats but what a jackass. Seriously.

He was probably one of those Dutch people who get their knickers in a twist over integratie. Oh, those people really bother me.

Quite possibly. There seem to be an increasing number of those about.

Keira looks horrible in that picture. I don't think that is healthy at all! Is that how she has always been but I've never noticed? Plus, she's young and when you're young, you should look like you collagen or "baby fat."

I can't remember her looking *that* thin but maybe I wasn't paying attention. More and more celebrities are going for the rail-thin look these days and I don't think it's doing them or impressionable teens any good. This probably isn't a new trend as it's been happening for years (I think even Audrey Hepburn had an eating disorder). I suppose if one is healthy, being skinny is totally fine. But Keira looks a tad sickly-looking in those first few photos.

Too bad we're not going to see a return to the shapely figures of the 1950s any time soon. Marilyn Munroe would probably considered obese by today's Hollywood's standards...

Very discourteous indeed. He's probably a native who's bored with expats moaning about his country. While I agree that that can get annoying and that people overlook the good points of the Netherlands, there's no need to say someone isn't welcome if they decided to overlook *one* of the cultural traditions. I know many Dutch people who don't do that sort of thing for their own birthday (silentreverie above being one of them). I doubt that makes them any less Dutch.

Either way, whoever that moron is, he *won't* be getting an invitation to my birthday. :P

PS. You are always welcome to stop by the Lowlands to visit if you want! Just let me know. :)

The dress was NOT flattering at all. Since she's pretty much flat-chested, she needs to go for clothes that don't highlight that particular area. I'm sure Trinny and Susanna would agree. :P
