Let the Sun Shine...

Urgh. I'm beginning to think the weather here is never going to improve. I can't begin to say exactly how sick and tired I am of the rain, cloudy skies and the virtually hurricane-force wind! I've read that there's a chance of thunder storms in Taipei tomorrow when I have to go up to the office (typical) so I'm not really looking forward to that. I ( Read more... )

well... at this time in Taiwan, it's 梅雨季 (plum rain season). If you've never heard of this weather phenomenon, you can search it on google. It just rains a lot and randomly and usually for over 10 (or 20) days here in Taiwan. Once it ends, you will get the sunlight you want. But you probably will think it would be too much sunshine at that time....

I don't mind...I come from a sunny place myself so I am used to temperatures of 30C+ in summer and scorching sun. ;)

I get S.A.D. (Season Affective Disorder) too. In other words, I get sad if I don't get enough sunlight. During the winter months (here in the northeastern U.S.) I sit in front of a special sun lamp for 25 minutes every morning while I read my email. It really helps. Let me know if you want to know the brand I use. You can order it via the web.

I wonder if I suffer from that...I do know my mood drops when I haven't seen the sun for a while. I come from a generally sunny place so this kind of weather does get to me. Not sure I quite need a special sun lamp yet (I'll see if I can improve my diet or something) but I will definately keep it in mind!

hey, if it's that bad, it's got to get better soon. right? also, this sounds like a realy ditsy thing to do, but goto tanning once or twice. even if it's just for a few minutes. seasonal depression runs my family and we've found that tanning once or twice a season, along with acupuncture, really helps.

They don't really have tanning salons in Taiwan as the average Taiwanese woman actually wants to get as pale as possible (they carry umbrellas around in summer and buy all sorts of whitening creams!). Also, I tend to burn easily if not careful so tanning is not ideal for my kind of skin. A bit of exposure to real sun would do nicely but even with that I have to be careful not to overdo it.

Let's just hope the weather clears up. If I knew how bad summers were here, I might have reconsidered my decision to come back here with my partner after our stay in Europe...

I am from then mid west and in the winter it's cold but at least sunny. I remember when I was an exchange student in Germany, the winter was a dull cold, grey. There was no snow, no sun. Just ice cold rain and grey.
Then one day the sun came out and I felt like I had been in solitary confinement for 3 months and was getting my first glimpse of light. I had to squint my eyes against the light but it was so warm.
It will get better :)
